'Brain Rot' Is The Word Of The Year
Recently, ‘Brain Rot’ has been chosen as the Oxford word of the year. It is defined as, “Supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as a result of overconsumption of material (particularly online content) considered to be trivial or unchallenging. Also: something characterized as likely to lead to such deterioration."(https://corp.oup.com/news/brain-rot-named-oxford-word-of-the-year-2024/)
We create a synopsis in our heads that it is the only way we can achieve this or that, and when we fail to follow it, the mind is in a sort of distress, which in turn brings unhappiness. Also, we feel burnt out even without doing anything exhausting. Where do we reach after so much over-planning? Choosing to scroll reels or do things that require the least use of the brain.
So what could be a possible way of coming out of this dilemma between making plans and just deciding to do things with the flow?
We might not know the exact answer to it right now. But the thing is that, instead of getting closer to the stages of ‘brain rot,’ we should choose to do constructive things. Such as:
- Learning a new skill- It is engaging and could be a better option instead of figuring out the possible happenings of the coming decade.
- Practicing Mindfulness- Even 15 minutes of daily meditation can relieve our brain from significant levels of stress and anxiety.
- Disconnecting- The world is recognizing the need for work-life balance and the negative impact of high workload, that also reduces productivity. Disconnect yourself daily for particular hours from your office life and also from digital objects.
- Reading Books- Although it is an undermined solution, it definitely relaxes our brain. Also, it enhances our imagination and expands our thinking levels.
There are many other possible solutions you can find on the internet. But the aim should be practicing, rather than just grabbing content.
As we all carry lots of dreams in our eyes, only work of efficacy can bring happiness to our hearts.
