Role of non profit organisations in society

A non-profit organization is an entity created for the purpose of collective welfare. It is not driven by profit but by the aim of serving a social cause that is necessary to the development of society as a whole. It closely examine the needs of the community and initiate programs to resolve the issues that disrupt the growth and well-being. As the world is pursuing the sustainable development goals, NPOs having a thorough understanding of inclusivity are playing a pivotal role in the achievement of these goals and heading the world to its betterment.
NPOs operate in various sectors such as education, healthcare, women's safety and empowerment, expansion of MSME, environment, and others. The volunteers reach out to people, educate them, and help them to come out of the constraints that adversely affect their lives. They also provide the essential resources and training to marginalized and underprivileged communities for their upliftment.
Such organizations resonate with the fact that if together we thrive for change, we can definitely break the predefined structures binding the growth and welfare of societies. Each act of consideration and kindness counts.

Pehchaan the Street School is one of the NPOs that is actively striving to spread awareness about education and inclusive development. It has been working since 2015, and at present there are 1500+ underprivileged children stumbling under the organization. It is continuously trying to expand its reach so that more people come together to help these children, who are deprived of basic education due to various reasons such as adverse living conditions, monetary constraints, and a lack of awareness among the adults about the need to educate their children.
The aim is not just to provide basic education, but it also focuses on vocational training and prepares the students to pursue their dreams with sheer confidence. As these children come from backgrounds where the families do not have an understanding of the new opportunities that are available with the advancement of the digital world and new technologies, it becomes necessary to expose them to new skills that can help them in their future. It collaborates with various other organizations to bring programs that cater to the requisites for all-round growth of the children. Pehchaan joined hands with the PsyK Life to conduct a session on personality development. Financial literacy sessions were also organized in collaboration with Project Smarth and the Youth India Foundation. Recently, with the NSS unit of GIBS, an adult literacy event was organized to empower adults through literacy and foster community development. There is also a psychology team at the school that caters to the mental health of the children so that any sense of inferiority complex doesn't develop among them.
As Gandhiji said, “The future depends on what we do in the present.” Each small step taken together can lead to great change.
